Calls for applications

The work of archives is central to addressing some of the challenges set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Of particular relevance is Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which aims to build strong institutions at the service of citizens, ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms. Likewise, archives are fundamental for the preservation of documentary historical heritage and for the safeguarding of the memory of peoples and individuals, thus being essential to achieve SDG 11 which, in its target 4, urges to redouble efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural heritage.

The purpose of the calls for proposals is to support projects that have a positive and sustainable impact on the access of Ibero-American citizens to archives and on the archival development of the region, through the Management for Development Results (GoRD) methodology, seeking favourable changes in the performance and strengthening of archival institutions, as guarantors of access to information and to the collective and documented memory of the Ibero-American peoples. The ultimate aim of the projects must be to generate “public value”, in the sense that the archives respond to the social demands of Ibero-American citizens.

Participation in the annual calls for proposals is open to legally constituted archives or other institutions that are custodians of documentary heritage and have their headquarters in one of the countries that are members of the Iberarchivos Programme or institutions that promote archival development in the region and formulate projects in which the archives/archivists of the Ibero-American Community as a whole will benefit.

It is strongly recommended that applicant institutions contact the National Archival Authority responsible for projects (see MEMBER COUNTRIES website) from the project design stage and/or the Iberarchivos Contact Technical Unit. In any case, the applicant institution is the entity that submits and is responsible for the full implementation of the project, the overall management of the funds received and the justification to the Iberarchivos Programme.
